General Questions
Blunt Stimulation is the term used for wide pulse stimulation providing a muscle reflex response not a jerking response found in narrow pulse stimulation systems. For the most humane solution to off leash control without undue discomfort to your dog trust E-Collar Technologies Inc.
Our innovative Control of Stimulation (COS) feature, which comes standard with all E-Collar Technology products, allows users to fine-tune stimulation levels to accommodate a range of canine temperaments. This feature enhances training outcomes and promotes a more successful training experience for both the handler and the dog. The COS technology, also known as Voltage-to-Amplitude conversion, is integrated into all E-Collar Technology products, thanks to our patented design.
The intensity dial can be adjusted smoothly and safely from 0 to 100 levels to prevent any potential overstimulation. Our patented “lock and set” function allows users to securely set their preferred stimulation level without the risk of accidentally increasing it. The convenient blue LCD displays featured on all E-Collar Technology products provide users with an easy way to monitor stimulation levels at all times.
Proper use of an e-collar is crucial, as low-level stimulation can have a calming effect on the dog. It is advisable to avoid high levels except in emergencies. The stimulation is comparable to a medical device known as a Muscle Stimulator or TENs Unit, which doctors use to re-educate muscles, alleviate muscle spasms, improve range of motion, prevent muscle atrophy, and address conditions stemming from a stroke. This method does not cause any marks or lingering pain and encourages compliance through muscle control of the dog’s neck.
When testing on our hands it can feel very sporadic as we have many smaller muscles in our hands and fingers; to get the best result we recommend testing on the forearm on a larger muscle. When testing over and over your body does begin to “expect” the feeling and this can sometimes feel stronger or weaker depending on the person. We like to suggest placing it on your arm and testing in C mode around a level 15. This is where most people begin to feel the stimulation. Keeping in mind that dogs can typically feel the stimulation at much lower levels and the neck is a more “sensitive” area.
Our e-collars are designed with a range of 0-100 levels to accommodate dogs with varying sensitivities and drives, ensuring a safe and customizable training experience. The higher levels are intended for use in specific situations, such as with high-drive dogs or when a dog is unresponsive to lower levels and possibly entering danger, always aiming to maintain safety and clear communication between the handler and the dog.
It is important to ensure that the collar is adjusted properly so that the “contact points” can make direct contact with the skin. There should be enough space to fit a couple of fingers between the collar strap and your dog to prevent skin irritation and discomfort. If the collar is too loose, the contact points may not administer stimulation reliably. Conversely, if the collar is too tight, it may cause chafing on the dog’s neck. The recommended position for the collar receiver is on either side of the neck, just below the ears, rather than on the windpipe.
During the initial period of training, we suggest placing the collar receiver (with the power turned off) on your dog during playtime or enjoyable activities for the first week or two. This helps your dog to form positive associations with the collar and to become comfortable wearing it. Following this acclimation period, you can gradually introduce stimulation to your dog. To do so, start by finding the lowest level of stimulation by adjusting the dial while applying continuous stimulation. The goal is to identify the point at which your dog first responds, and to set this as the baseline level.
Over the next week, continue to engage in activities with your dog as usual while wearing the collar (with the power turned on). Reward your dog with treats or affection as you deliver stimulation, helping your dog to associate the sensation with a positive experience. As your dog becomes accustomed to the e-collar, you can incrementally increase the stimulation level to achieve the desired response. Keep in mind that lower levels of stimulation generally lead to better long-term results. If higher stimulation is necessary, we recommend using brief pulses or the momentary button feature.
It is not recommended to use an e-collar to correct a puppy younger than 6 months of age. However, introducing an e-collar to puppies between 4 to 6 months can be done using the gradual introduction technique outlined above.
How small of a dog will the E-Collar receiver fit comfortably?
Dogs weighing as little as 5 pounds have successfully been trained using our small collar receivers. The majority of small dogs typically respond well to the vibration feature, with the stimulation being utilized solely as a means to strengthen the vibration training. The ME-300 with the RX-070 Micro Receiver has been designed specifically for small dogs. This smaller collar receiver offers a more compact design, weighing 20% less and providing 20% less stimulation. In addition, the contact points are positioned approximately 20% closer together for small dog comfort. Additionally, the collar is adjustable, enabling horizontal or vertical positioning of the contact points, providing a better fit for small dog breeds.
Yes, with our innovative ‘lock and set’ feature this allows customers utilizing multi-dog models to select personalized intensity levels ranging from 0 to 100 for each individual dog, taking into consideration their unique temperament and behavior traits. Additionally, all models come equipped with adjustable boost levels that can be customized independently for each dog in multi-dog setups.
E-Collar Technologies employs cutting-edge packaging technology to ensure waterproofing up to 500 feet for both the collar receiver and remote transmitter in select models. Our round remote transmitters are designed to float, to help prevent loss during water activities. For units that are regularly exposed to water, it is recommended to tighten screws monthly and conduct routine inspections for any defects to minimize the risk of internal water damage.
While the 900 and FOB series remote transmitters are so technologically advanced that they may not float due to packing constraints, they remain water resistant.
When using an E-Collar while swimming, it’s important to consider how water can affect its functionality and your dog’s response. Water acts as a conductive material, which can impact the stimulation levels needed to get a response from your dog.
Keep in mind that when the collar is completely submerged in water, it may require a stronger level of stimulation as the water can absorb some of the stimulation being sent to the dog.
On the other hand, once the collar is out of the water and the dog is still wet, the stimulation may feel more intense due to the water’s conductivity.
Water can be a significant source of distraction for many dogs, which may require increased stimulation to keep their focus. We suggest focusing more on your dog’s response rather than the level on the screen.
NOTICE TO PREVENT WATER DAMAGE If Receiver is exposed to water on a regular basis, tighten screws once or twice a month depending on the frequency of water exposure. Please make sure screws are snug but not overly tight.
Here are the types of Screwdrivers needed to tighten each system. We do sell the T-6 and T-10 along with replacement screws and gaskets should they be needed.

While the technology behind e-collars is essential to training your dog, it won’t work as effectively if you have an ill-fitting collar strap. E-Collar Technologies offers multiple dog strap options, from standard biothane to bungee to concealment collars, in all the sizes you need. Our collar straps are adjustable and sturdy, so you can find your dog’s perfect fit and feel confident that your investment is built to last. Collar straps come in a standard length to fit most dogs and can be cut to fit.
Important: Select the correct collar width for your system.
The traditional collar strap (1″ or 3/4″) is a flat buckle strap that resembles a belt. It features multiple adjustment holes to ensure a proper fit for your dog, and any excess can be easily trimmed off. Our standard collar straps are crafted from biothane material, which consists of an inner polyester webbing and an outer TPU/PVC coating. This construction provides excellent durability, waterproofing, and ease of cleaning.
Our bungee collar straps (1″ or 3/4″) feature a flat buckle strap enhanced with a bungee ring. This unique design allows the collar to provide flexibility as the dog’s neck expands throughout the day, ensuring a comfortable and snug fit at all times. This product is also available in a 3/4″ mini strap suitable for small dogs.
Our quick snap collar straps (1″ or 3/4″) combine our standard flat buckle design with a quick snap feature, simplifying the process of putting on and removing your dog’s collar. This product is also available in a 3/4″ mini strap suitable for small dogs.
We also offer a quick snap bungee collar (1″ or 3/4″) that incorporates all of these features into one convenient product. This product is also available in a 3/4″ mini strap suitable for small dogs.
Our traditional contact points are made of high-quality stainless steel, composed of chromium and nickel. Stainless steel is widely used in everyday household products, for its strong, durable, and corrosion resistant metal.
Although the majority of pets do not experience any issues with the traditional stainless steel contact points, some canines may be more sensitive to the nickel component.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may consist of irritation, redness, hair loss, or sores. In the event of an allergic reaction, it is advisable to discontinue use of the product until the symptoms subside and consider switching to a hypoallergenic contact point or comfort pad.
HYPO-ALLERGENIC CONTACT POINTS
Our Hypoallergenic stainless steel contact points are made with a higher percentage of chromium and a lower percentage of nickel. Hypoallergenic stainless steel is considered safe for those canines with metal allergies due to its low nickel content.
It is important to note that while hypoallergenic stainless steel is considered safe for dogs with metal allergies, it may not be suitable for all dogs. Some dogs with extreme metal allergies may still experience an allergic reaction to the small amount of nickel present in hypoallergenic stainless steel contact points.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may consist of irritation, redness, hair loss, or sores. In the event of an allergic reaction, it is advisable to discontinue use of the product until the symptoms subside and consider switching to a titanium hypoallergenic contact point or comfort pad.
TITANIUM HYPO-ALLERGENIC CONTACT POINTS
Our Titanium contact points are a durable and lightweight metal known for its hypoallergenic properties. Titanium is a high biocompatibility metal making it a great option for pups with sensitive skin, particularly those who are allergic to nickel. It is also highly resistant to corrosion, making it suitable to wear in water environments like pools, lakes, or the ocean.
It’s important to note that titanium naturally contains trace amounts of nickel but the strong bond between the two metals makes allergic reactions unlikely. As a result, titanium is still considered a hypoallergenic metal and a preferred option for dogs who have sensitivities to metals.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction may consist of irritation, redness, hair loss, or sores. In the event of an allergic reaction, it is advisable to discontinue use of the product until the symptoms subside and consider switching to one of our comfort pads.
Additionally, your titanium contact points may develop unique coloring such as blue, purple, green, or red due to heat and oxidation, but this natural process poses no harm or risk to your pet.
Comfort pads provide maximum comfort, redistribute the pressure from standard contact points, and allows for stimulation to be more evenly distributed, while promoting better contact and reactivity. If your dog is sensitive to the standard contact points or will be wearing an e-collar for extended periods of time, E-Collar Technologies recommends the use of a comfort pad. Remember to consider your dog’s coat length and density when choosing contact points and comfort pads so your dog’s collar makes a good connection and will work correctly.
How long can my dog wear the e-collar with comfort pads?
While comfort pads can be used for extended wear, we recommend that your dog not wear and e-Collar for more than 12 hours a day and to rotate sides around 2-3 hours of wear.
What is the difference from the ones with wings and without wings?
The comfort pads with wings are designed to get down to the skin through the thick fur or undercoat of the dog, the wings will sit on the skin and the stimulation will come through the actual wings. The comfort pads without wings would be better for dogs that have shorter fur or more hair like. As their main purpose is to distribute pressure making it more comfortable for the dog to wear.
Will it increase or decrease stimulation with the wings?
Comfort pads will not increase the stimulation level instead, you might see yourself having to dial up a tad from your usual working level as this is an attachment with more surface area for the stimulation to travel though. However, when switching to a comfort pad with wings you should be able to get a more consistent connection with the skin and therefore you may find a lower working level.

The EZ-900 (Easy Educator System) and UL-1200 (Upland System) utilize the same technology, offering tone, vibration, and stimulation (tapping) features. The primary distinctions between the two models lie in their size, the intensity of stimulation, and the design of the remote control.
The EZ-900 features an oblong remote equipped with four programmable buttons, allowing you to customize both stimulation modes, tone, and vibration. It is paired with the RX-090 collar receiver, which boasts a range of up to half a mile. This collar is our most popular choice and is suitable for a wide variety of breeds, coming standard with many of our products.
The UL-1200 includes a large round remote featuring two buttons designated for stimulation and one button that can be utilized for tone or vibration. It is paired with the RX-120 collar receiver, which offers a range of up to one mile. This collar is specifically designed for more persistent dogs or those with a high prey drive, as the stimulation levels increase significantly at higher settings. Please note that the collar receiver is larger in size and may not be suitable for smaller dog breeds.
Similarities:
- Both utilize the same ergonomic package and electrical component structure providing a lightweight and durable product.
- The battery and charging circuitry are identical and both pair/sync to the same collar receivers.
- Both have the ability to have advanced features accessed via a USB tool computer interface program provided by E- Collar Technologies.
- Both offer our patented “I” mode feature which provides stimulation starting at zero and follows the dial without having to push a button, great for finding working levels and for sensitive dogs that require only low levels to gain compliance, it is also good for keeping pressure on resistant dogs that may need a constantly changing sensation to keep their attention.
- Both systems are able to be converted to a “plus” system at any time by simply pairing an additional collar receiver to any of the dogs.
Differences:
- The Pro and Easy use different LCDs and software for controlling the stimulation, vibration and tone.
- The Pro can easily switch between 1, 2, and 3 dog modes providing for independent program settings for each of these modes. It also incorporates 2 ramp stimulation features which allow the user to set 2 different ramp times of 1 and 2 seconds with each having its own stimulation level.
- The Easy has 2 configurations; a 1 and 2 dog unit that is switchable between the 1 dog and 2 dog modes and a 3 and 4 dog version that is fixed and not changeable to a 1 or 2 dog unit. The Easy 3 dog version is a 4 dog system minus one collar receiver allowing for an upgrade to a 4 dog system at any time.
- The Pro system comes with our deluxe hard case with foam inserts for ease transport.
Choosing: The Pro was designed to accommodate the needs of the more seasoned e-collar user who may be training many different dogs and require the ramp features for their adaptive training. While the Easy has many features making it a truly versatile modern e-collar it is best suited for the novice who may not change operating modes and dogs often.

Enhance the range of your system by replacing the standard antenna with a long-range antenna, which can provide an increase of approximately 20% more range. This antenna is compatible with all models, with the exception of the FOB.
The range operates on a straight line of sight. Please note that the effective range of your E-Collar training device may be affected by various factors, including terrain, weather conditions, the presence of trees or power lines, and potential interference from other wireless devices.
For optimal range, hold the transmitter in a way that resembles holding a torch, similar to the pose of the Statue of Liberty. It is important to keep the antenna away from your body and fingers at all times, as any contact with the antenna can significantly reduce the effective range.
Troubleshooting
A blinking green indicator light indicates a fully charged battery.
A blinking yellow/orange light signifies the battery is approaching low levels of power.
A blinking red light, when no buttons are being pressed, indicates that there is only a limited amount of usage time remaining. The LED will change to a solid red when an activation button on the remote is pressed.
The white light on your collar receiver is designed to enhance visibility in low-light conditions. It can emit a steady or flashing white light to help illuminate your dog’s surroundings during nighttime use.
The designation “1D” refers to a single dog in the current setting.
A flashing “1D” allows for manual adjustment of the stimulation level using the dial.
However, a solid “1D” indicates that the stimulation level is fixed and cannot be altered.
In multi-dog systems you may also see a 2D, 3D, or 4D depending on the configuration.
To lock and unlock your stimulation level for the round handheld transmitters follow the outlined steps below.
- Dog 1
- Make sure the 1D is on the screen
- To lock press down on the top dial for 2-3 seconds until you see the 1D turn solid
- To unlock press down on the top dial for 2-3 seconds until you see the 1D begin to flash
- Dog 2
- Make sure the 2D is on the screen
- To lock press down on the top dial for 2-3 seconds until you see the 2D turn solid
- To unlock press down on the top dial for 2-3 seconds until you see the 2D begin to flash
These instructions apply to the 300, 400, 800, 1200 series only.
There are two main stimulation modes available on your e-collar, including the Momentary (M) stimulation mode and the Continuous (C) stimulation mode.
The momentary stimulation feature delivers a single pulse of stimulation at the specified level when the activation button on your remote is pressed and set to the “M” function.
Continuous stimulation provides a consistent level of stimulation when activated through the remote’s C function, remaining active as long as the button is depressed, and automatically ceasing after 10 seconds. This feature is designed to ensure the safety of your dog by preventing unintentional over-stimulation.
Your e-collar remote and receiver should hold its charge for 24-48 hours. Charging your system every other day is about normal.
LiPo Battery Lifespan: LiPo batteries have a limited lifespan. Eventually, after 1-2 years or about 200-300 charge cycles, you will find that most LiPo batteries have lost a lot of performance and it will be time to replace them. You will notice that you get less and less time between charges and not as much “punch” as you did when the battery was new. THIS IS WHY WE OFFER YOU A FREE BATTERY EXCHANGE WITHIN YOUR TWO-YEAR WARRANTY!
Overcharging: One of the most common ways that LiPo batteries are abused is in overcharging the batteries. If users leave their batteries charged for too long, the batteries can become damaged, performance can be lost, and the life span of the batteries can decrease. Fortunately, there are many chargers that automatically stop charging a Lithium-ion battery when the battery is fully charged.
Extreme Temperatures: Heat and cold are the enemies of lipo batteries. Allowing your battery to get hot either during use or especially during charging will damage them. And on the other side, cold temperatures will decrease the performance of a lipo battery. When the temperature of the battery is below 50° F (10° C), you’ll start to notice performance drops; significant issues start to occur when the battery gets below 20° F (-7° C). This strains the battery and will reduce the life expectancy and performance of the battery. Charging the batteries when they are cold will result in similar stress to the battery and shorten its life.
Following these cold weather protocols will ensure your power system remains in peak performance!
Wrap your batteries in hand warmers, rice heaters, or even using your own body heat.
Start with a fully charged pack.
Always warm your batteries PRIOR to running them when the temperature of the battery is 50° F (10° C) or lower.
Your e-fence receiver should hold a charge for 3-4 weeks in a normal scenario (Dogs who test the boundary more
often will use more battery). So expect to charge your receiver about once a month which is normal.
